Portfolio 3 Week 2 Mid Project

I decided to kill two birds with one stone by studying anatomy and practicing VR Sculpting simultaneously. I am a week behind now, but I plan to only focus on the sculpting aspect of the project by continuing to sculpt in Zbrush, and then texture in substance if I have the time. I have enjoyed myself, because I have been wanting to take the time to study anatomy. Knowing anatomy is important for foundational knowledge of form, creating realistic form from imagination, and for animal anatomy comparison. VR Sculpting is difficult, because precision of placement and details are harder to achieve. My favorite thing about VR Sculpting, is the ease of placement of clay by working in real space, ease of the move tool, the fluidity of placing clay, and the auto remeshing by working with voxels. However, I cant work in VR for long, because my face hurts from the headset pressing on it. It feels barbaric. Not the face!

Schedule:

Week 1: I took forever to figure out what I want to do.
Week 2: Concept and Anatomy Study
Week 3: Refine anatomy and Sculpt, High res details
Week 4: Finish sculpt, Texture if have the time

Sprint #5 Delivery *Mature Content Nudity*

The Demon Asmodeus is finalized unless said otherwise. Whoohoo! I like the way everything came out. It's my favorite project so far. I like that I had almost a whole semester to work on it. It was nice to be able to keep reflecting upon the progress, instead of moving on to another project quickly. This project had gone through a second reiteration for better form, brushes made that were never used, anatomy study, improved process of repeating shapes (the front teeth on the body), and a surprisingly smooth retopo. It might have been the best retopo process I have ever done without weird stuff occurring, like non-manifold geo. I also learned a lot more about texturing in Substance. The new Gio brush from the Pixologic website saved my butt with the fine details.

Portfolio 3 Week 1

So... I feel my soul dying. I wanted to work on a Predator bust, but then I realized that there are thousands of Predator sculptures out there, what will make mine stand out, and I don't have the time to made the quality that I want to achieve. I made a proxy for the character Tsugumi from the manga The Tsugumi Project. She is a cool character, however, I decided to make her a side project instead.

So now I am going to practice VR Sculpting with George Bridgman's anatomy as inspiration. It will be a good exercise going back to my fine art roots. I want to focus on the sculpting process with gesture in mind, practice sculpting in VR, and study anatomy.

Schedule:

Sculpt, sculpt, sculpt, sculpt

Portfolio 2 Week 4 Final Turn In

Woot! Swag Monster is now named Teri, short for Terikyaki, because it looks like teriyaki-flavored jerky. It was fun. I learned new things about fixing UVs, anatomy, texture, and more. I still have some small adjustments to make, including fixing the specularity, but it is pretty much finished. Thank you Hannah for the lighting rig. The blue lighting is my crappy lighting and not Hannah's :P.

Guess what's next! I'm excited for this one!

Angel VS Demon Sprint #4 Delivery *Nudity Warning*

*Nudity Warning* For this sprint, I finished the high res (first round) and the retopology, and tested out the bake in Substance and some texture layers. For the next sprint, I'll refine the high-res further and continue to texture till completion. The retopology was not as difficult as I imagined. Hopefully, the mesh is good for animation.

Portfolio 2 Week 3

Oh hellish Maya. Whyyyy. If I had a dollar for every time it crashed. I had trouble UVing. For whatever reason it would try to unfold and then it would crash. Retopo started out great, and then I realized I should have kept the teeth and claws separate. Whyyyyyyyy. I had to auto-UV the antlers. Miraculously, I was able to UV the body but not without hardship. I think I mind-willed it into existence because I'm not sure how it came to be. Retopo was weird too, and sometimes my meshes would just disappear from sight even though it shows they are supposed to be there. Whyyyyyyyy. Substance is great. I like Substance.

Portfolio 2 Week 2 Mid Project

Worked on the high-res this week. I am still not sure if this is what I want for the final design. I tried to have believable anatomy, but the anatomy is still off from being realistic.

Week 2 - high res

Week 3 - finish high res and retopo

Week 4 - texture
